1. What this policy covers
This policy covers cookies and every other technology that stores or reads information on your device when you use Proficiam, including browser local storage and session storage. UK PECR and the EU ePrivacy Directive treat all of these the same way, so we list them together.
It sits alongside our Privacy Policy, which explains how we handle the personal data these technologies may involve.
2. How we ask for consent
Strictly necessary cookies and storage are set as soon as you use the part of the service that needs them. They are exempt from consent because the service you asked for cannot work without them.
Everything else is off by default. We do not load any analytics script, and no analytics request leaves your browser, until you choose to turn analytics on. Closing or dismissing the banner is treated as a refusal, not as consent.
You can change or withdraw your choice at any time using the 'Cookie settings' link in the footer of every page, or the button at the end of this policy. Withdrawing is exactly as easy as giving consent, and takes effect immediately.
We record your choice in a first-party cookie so we do not have to ask again on every page. That record lasts 180 days, after which we ask you again. We also ask again if we change the categories or add a new non-essential technology.
3. Google Consent Mode
Where analytics is used, we run Google Consent Mode with all consent signals set to 'denied' before any Google tag is allowed to run, and update them only when you consent. This means that if you refuse or ignore the banner, no analytics or advertising storage is written.
We do not use advertising, remarketing, or cross-context behavioural advertising cookies.
4. Third-party cookies
Payments are handled on Stripe's hosted checkout and billing portal. Stripe sets its own cookies there to process the payment and prevent fraud, as described in Stripe's own privacy policy. These are necessary to complete a payment you have asked us to take.
Google Analytics 4 sets cookies only after you consent to analytics.
5. Controlling cookies in your browser
You can also block or delete cookies through your browser settings. Blocking strictly necessary cookies will stop login, checkout, billing management, and account features from working.
Clearing your browser storage will also clear your recorded cookie choice, so we will ask again on your next visit.
6. What we store
Strictly necessary
Required to sign you in, keep your session secure, protect forms against cross-site request forgery, and carry you through checkout. These cannot be switched off, because the service you asked for will not work without them.
